The payments industry has changed dramatically over the past several years. In 2020, consumer expectations shifted, and we saw a sudden rise in mobile, self-service and contactless payments. New technologies made it easier for ISOs, ISVs and merchant acquirers to provide the cutting-edge payments solutions their merchants needed to succeed.
This year, we’re on a mission to continue that trend of innovation.
In January, our team gathered for our annual Sales Kick Off event in San Diego, California. This event’s purpose was to bring our team together under one roof to align on key strategic goals and develop a plan to make 2023 the best year yet for our partners.
Our partners are the lifeblood of our business, which is why we’re dedicated to further enabling them with the tools and capabilities needed to thrive. So how are we planning to make 2023 the best year yet? Accomplishing this goal depends on three things: full commerce enablement, partner initiatives and building high-performing teams.
Full Commerce Enablement
The payments landscape is constantly evolving, and there’s been a huge shift toward software-led payments. In order for NMI to better support its partners and enable them with the tools they need to create a seamless payment experience from sign-up to payout, we have expanded our solutions beyond our robust payments platform, through our recent acquisitions of Agreement Express and IRIS CRM and our third-party Marketplace Apps.
Our partners now have access to a fully customizable merchant application offering, digital risk scoring, automated underwriting tools, effortless onboarding to acquirer platforms, along with ongoing risk management.
With these tools, partners can recruit new merchants quickly and confidently. In several cases, partners already using these solutions have cut onboarding and underwriting time from several hours (or days) to minutes. In addition, built-in lead tracking and merchant-level business analytics enable sales reps to prioritize their time and focus on accounts requiring the most attention.
Once merchants are on your platform, NMI’s industry-leading gateway solution allows partners to offer their merchants a variety of payment solutions, including:
- eCommerce payments
- Mobile payments
- In-app purchases
- In-person card and card-not-present transactions
- Self-serve payments, and more
In addition, NMI’s proprietary fraud prevention solution alongside Kount’s AI-powered platform will monitor accounts and transactions for signs of fraud. If a transaction raises a red flag, such as exceeding a maximum purchase threshold, the software will automatically stop the purchase and flag it for further review.
Our goal in 2023 and beyond, is to better enable our partner base with these modular solutions, whether they need the full suite of solutions or just a few, and continue to build and provide more value to our partners.
Partner Initiatives
In addition to our full commerce enablement solutions, we’re driving growth in 2023 with a series of partner-specific initiatives. We’re dedicated to supporting our partners at every stage of their journey.
After becoming an NMI partner, your Channel Account Manager (CAM), will be your main point of contact and work closely with a dedicated team. We provide a team – rather than a single person – to ensure you have a smooth onboarding experience and long-term support.
In addition to having a dedicated team on your side, we also provide in-depth training, partner enablement webinars and a detailed partner playbook. These resources ensure you are well-prepared to begin onboarding merchants. Partner training sessions include topics such as:
- How to reduce merchant interchange costs while increasing revenue
- How to use NMI’s Gateway in a card-present environment
- How to establish accounts with multiple merchant identification numbers (MIDs)
Another way we plan to support our partners is with regional events. March 2023, marks the launch of our new partner event series. The first will take place at the Dallas Cowboys HQ and practice fields, The Star, in Frisco, Texas. During each event, partners will enjoy a day of networking and learning with NMI’s leadership team, who will offer valuable tips and tricks on how to win merchants.
Finally, for qualified partners, NMI will also allocate funds for joint marketing efforts between our organization and yours. You can use these funds to support and promote your demand generation activities, customer content and events.
Our partner initiatives make it easier than ever for ISOs, ISVs and merchant acquirers to gain a competitive advantage and position themselves as industry leaders.
Building High-Performing Teams
Creating a seamless partner experience starts at home. At NMI, we believe building strong teams and fostering a community-first culture is crucial to our success.
In 2022, our company was named an honoree to TeckSpark’s Best Places to Work in Tech Award and was shortlisted for the 2022 Employee Engagement Award at The Investors in People Awards. In 2023, we have even more exciting announcements on the horizon.
At NMI, we are constantly celebrating our team’s achievements – both in the office and at home. Here are a few ways we’re building high-performing teams and putting our community-first culture at the forefront of our business:
Sales Kick Off Awards
Each year, we recognize team members who go above and beyond for our company and partners. During our annual Sales Kick Off in January, we celebrated a group of individuals who played an integral role in helping our company reach new heights in 2022.

High Performing Teams
At NMI, we are dedicated to building high performing teams that can contribute to the company’s ongoing success. To do this, we have cultivated a merit-based culture based on outcomes. We focus on finding the best people, no matter where they are from, and ensure teams have the tools to support our strategic imperatives. This ensures our people achieve objectives and key results (OKRs), contributing to NMI’s broader success.
By focusing on finding the right people and giving them the tools needed to succeed, we ensure teams are aligned and continuously rowing in the right direction to deliver on what’s important
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Diversity, equity and inclusion is a core focus at NMI. We want our team to feel empowered to bring their full selves to work daily. We believe that diversity, equity and inclusion drive innovation, ideas and, ultimately, higher team performance.
Remote-First
As part of our commitment to cultivating the best culture in the business, we’ve adopted a remote-first company structure. All new and existing employees can work from one of our hubs or from their homes. This gives our team the flexibility to focus on work in an environment free from the usual distractions of office life while having the freedom to care for themselves and their families.
Fireside Chats
Keeping teams engaged is always a top priority for remote-first organizations. At NMI, we host weekly fireside chats to discuss company updates, interact with partners and share tips and tricks on working from home. Bringing everyone together every week helps us keep our teammates connected and engaged.
Conclusion
At our Sales Kick Off event in January, we laid the groundwork to make 2023 the best year yet for our partners, but that’s only the beginning. We have even more plans and initiatives to help our partners grow to new heights in the years to come.
“NMI has tremendous momentum for the 2023 year. With our massive scale and our ability to now cross-sell and upsell with multiple solutions, we are poised for outsized growth. Furthermore, we have made big investments in sales and marketing and have the dream team. We’re ready to get out there and execute!” – Vijay Sondhi, NMI CEO.
